Youth Wing Leader Arrested for Rape and Death of Girlfriend's Toddler in India
A 40-year-old political party youth wing leader has been arrested in Tamil Nadu, India, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in connection with the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl he allegedly raped. The Anchetty police apprehended the suspect, identified as Periyanayagam from Sesurajapuram, on Friday, following a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
Details of the Case and Investigation
According to an investigation officer, Periyanayagam was involved in a relationship with a 24-year-old woman who was separated from her husband and residing with her parents. The woman had a daughter from her marriage, aged two and a half years. On December 11, 2025, the mother took the toddler to a private hospital in Anchetty, claiming the child had experienced seizures. Medical professionals at the hospital declared the child dead upon arrival.
Based on a complaint filed by the child's father, the Anchetty police registered a case of suspicious death and launched an inquiry. A postmortem examination was conducted, and the recently released autopsy report revealed significant internal injuries, prompting authorities to treat the matter as a criminal case. Investigators discovered that the girl's mother was in a relationship with Periyanayagam, who allegedly sexually assaulted the child while the mother was absent. The officer stated that the girl succumbed to the injuries sustained during the sexual assault.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
Periyanayagam is currently being held at the Dharmapuri sub-jail under judicial custody after being presented before the Krishnagiri court. The arrest highlights the severe nature of the allegations under India's child protection laws, which aim to safeguard minors from sexual offenses. This case has drawn attention to issues of child safety and the enforcement of legal measures in such distressing circumstances.
The investigation continues as authorities work to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served. The community and law enforcement agencies are emphasizing the importance of vigilance and reporting in cases involving child abuse to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
