Ogun Police Commissioner Advocates Enhanced Inter-Agency Collaboration to Combat Insecurity
In a significant move to bolster security efforts, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has emphasized the urgent need for a stronger working relationship among various security agencies. This initiative aims to enhance inter-agency collaboration, operational synergy, and coordinated responses to effectively tackle crimes and insecurity within the state.
Familiarisation Visits to Key Security Agencies
Ojajuni made this call during a series of familiarisation visits that commenced on Tuesday, where he engaged with security chiefs from multiple agencies. The visits included meetings with the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State.
At the 35 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, located at Alamala Barracks in Abeokuta, Ojajuni was warmly received by the Commander, Brigadier General Godwin U. Nwamba. The discussions centered on consolidating the long-standing military-police partnership in internal security operations. Both leaders highlighted the importance of improving synergy on existing joint operational frameworks and identified key areas for enhanced coordination, including rapid response mechanisms, intelligence-driven deployments, and synchronised patrols across identified security flashpoints in the state.
They also stressed the necessity of continuous inter-agency communication, joint situational assessments, and operational preparedness to effectively address violent crimes, communal tensions, and other threats to public peace and order.
Strengthening Intelligence-Led Security Architecture
During his visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) Ogun State Command, Ojajuni was received by the State Director, Director R.A. Adelakun. The deliberations focused on strengthening the intelligence-led security architecture through enhanced surveillance, proactive intelligence gathering, and timely dissemination of actionable information to relevant security agencies.
Both officials emphasized the critical need to prevent security breaches before they escalate and underscored the importance of synergy between intelligence and enforcement bodies in addressing organised crime and other emerging internal security challenges. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining a secure and stable environment through coordinated preventive strategies.
Border Security and Migration Control
At the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Ogun State Command, Comptroller of Immigration, CIS Olufunke Yetunde Odusote, welcomed Ojajuni and his delegation. The discussions revolved around border security management and migration control, with a strong emphasis on strengthening mechanisms to curb illegal migration, human trafficking, smuggling activities, and the infiltration of criminal elements through unauthorised border routes.
The two agencies reviewed the importance of enhanced intelligence sharing, joint surveillance of border communities, and improved inter-agency coordination in addressing cross-border criminality. They noted that effective border management remains a critical component of national security and internal stability.
Protection of Critical National Assets
During the visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State Command, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo received the CP and his team. The discussions outlined a strategy to deepen collaboration on the protection of critical national assets and infrastructures, including public utilities, government facilities, and privately owned strategic installations.
Both agencies talked about joint enforcement operations to tackle vandalism, sabotage, and other illegal activities, as well as improved coordination in crisis response and emergency management. They reaffirmed the need for structured operational alignment, particularly in situations requiring multi-agency intervention such as civil unrest, disaster response, and large-scale public disturbances.
Commitment to Sustained Engagement and Trust-Building
Ojajuni expressed his gratitude to the security chiefs and personnel of all the visited agencies for their warm reception and cooperation, acknowledging their continuous support and unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security in Ogun State.
He noted that contemporary policing and internal security management require sustained engagement, trust-building, intelligence sharing, and a unified operational posture among all security institutions. Ojajuni described the synergy among security agencies as a critical pillar for effective policing and emphasized that his engagements were aimed at consolidating existing partnerships and building stronger operational bridges.
The CP reaffirmed the Command's unwavering commitment under his stewardship to enhancing coordination, deepening intelligence sharing, and sustaining collective efforts aimed at ensuring peace, safety of lives and property, and overall security stability across the state.
