Five Young Footballers Killed in Kebbi Road Accident
Five young footballers from the Ambursa area of Birnin Kebbi lost their lives in a motor accident along Airport Road in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The victims were traveling to a friendly match when the incident occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Abbas, Auwal, Abdullahi, Abdulsalam, and Alhaji Dan Abu. According to Daily Trust, the accident happened when a Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying 18 occupants lost control and somersaulted.
Governor's Condolence Visit and Rescue Efforts
Abubakar Umar Dutsinmari, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led a condolence visit to the palace of the District Head of Ambursa on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris. During the visit, Dutsinmari recalled that Governor Idris witnessed the accident firsthand and personally participated in the rescue operation.
He stated that Governor Idris directed emergency measures to save the lives of those who sustained injuries in the accident. The commissioner described the loss of the five young men as a great tragedy, not only to the Ambursa community but also to Kebbi State as a whole. He assured the community of the governor’s continued sympathy and support to the victims and their families.
Financial Support for Victims' Families
Dutsinmari, accompanied by the commissioner of information and the commissioner of works, presented a total of N20 million to the families of the deceased. Additionally, N1 million was given to each of those who sustained injuries, and N2 million was provided to other occupants of the vehicle on behalf of the governor.
