Girl Dangling from Window Ledge Rescued by Stranger and Police

A three-year-old girl was left dangling from a window ledge above a pawnbroker's shop in Ilford, east London, for at least nine minutes before being rescued by a complete stranger and a police officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, on Ilford High Road.

Shocking Scene Unfolds

Shocked onlookers witnessed the young girl clinging to a window ledge on a flat above the shop. Footage posted on social media captured bystanders screaming, "Hurry up," as a woman appeared from a window below, calling out and reaching for the child. The girl desperately tried to pull herself up while a police officer on a ledge below looked on helplessly.

Dramatic Rescue

A topless man joined the officer to assist in the rescue just as the girl's grip began to fail. A passerby was seen carrying a step ladder below. The man and the officer positioned themselves directly beneath the girl as she fell. Fortunately, the unidentified man caught her, and the officer steadied them both as he wobbled. Onlookers cheered and clapped as the rescue succeeded. "Well done!" one shouted. "The baby got saved, my God," another added.

The man and child embraced before he handed her to the woman through the window below. The officer thanked the man for saving the child, according to the video.

Father Expresses Gratitude

The girl's father described the policeman and the second man as "amazing heroes." He told Metro that his daughter was fine and would be returning to school following the ordeal. He emphasized that the man who helped the officer was a "complete stranger" to them. "They were both amazing. They were heroes. We are so relieved. They saved our child," he said. "She is fine thanks to them. We are very grateful. She will be going to school again today. We would like to say thanks to those people."

The relieved father did not reveal how his daughter ended up on the ledge but, when asked how she managed to hang on for nine minutes, he added, "She's very strong."

Police Confirmation

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers arrived at the scene just after 3:20 pm. The force stated: "Officers were called to Ilford High Road at 3:23 pm on Tuesday following concerns for the safety of a child climbing onto a window ledge. The girl was brought to safety by 3:32 pm by an attending officer and member of the public. They did not receive any injuries."
