The Director of the Board, Surajo Usman, confirmed the development in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Birnin Kebbi. Usman explained that the board had received complaints on Friday, May 8, from residents of Badariya regarding women who were reportedly dressing inappropriately while staying in a house in the area.

Community Concerns

According to Usman, the residents expressed concern that the women sometimes appeared outside the house in such attire, which raised alarm in the community. In response, Hisbah officers were deployed to investigate the report and verify the allegations.

Arrest and Interrogation

During the operation, two women suspected of involvement were arrested. Upon interrogation, the women admitted to the incident but stated that they had no malicious intent. They explained that the extreme heat had prompted them to wear the clothing for relief and ventilation.

Counseling and Release

The women expressed remorse for their actions and pledged not to repeat the act. The Hisbah board counseled them on upholding morality, modesty, and respect for religious and community values, including wearing decent clothing even at home. Following the counseling, the women were released and advised to conduct themselves decently going forward.
