A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening, May 24, in Murchison Falls National Park, northwestern Uganda, when a Toyota Hiace minibus collided with an elephant crossing the road. The crash resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to four others, according to police reports released on Monday, May 25.
The minibus was traveling from Arua city to the capital, Kampala, when it struck the elephant and subsequently lost control. Police confirmed that three occupants died at the scene, while four others, including the driver, sustained injuries. The vehicle was carrying seven officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority.
Authorities shared images of the damaged minibus on social media, emphasizing the dangers of driving through wildlife areas. The Ugandan Wildlife Authority (UWA) also confirmed the incident and reiterated the importance of caution. Motorists are strongly advised to drive carefully, especially at night, and to observe speed limits to avoid such collisions.
