Oyo Police Debunk Curfew Rumors, Urge Residents to Stay Calm

The Oyo State Police Command has officially refuted claims circulating in some quarters regarding the imposition of a curfew and restrictions on movement within and outside Ibadan, labeling such reports as entirely false and misleading.

In a statement released by the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the police reassured the public that there is no security threat in the state that would justify panic or apprehension. The command emphasized that normal activities should proceed without fear, as comprehensive security arrangements have been implemented to protect lives and property across Oyo State.

According to the statement, police officers and operatives have been strategically deployed in various parts of the state to ensure law and order and to respond swiftly to any security issues that may arise. The command stated: “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters.”

The police warned individuals and groups against disseminating false information, rumors, or unverified security reports that could cause unnecessary fear and emotional distress among residents. It added that anyone found circulating misleading information would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the rumored restriction order and continue with their lawful activities without panic. It further explained that any official security directive, emergency measure, or movement restriction, if necessary, would only be communicated through verified official channels and authorized media platforms linked to the police command.

The statement also encouraged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies in the collective effort to sustain peace and public order across the state. This clarification comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Oyo State following recent incidents of attacks and abductions reported in some communities within Oriire Local Government Area.
