Attack on NIPSS Repelled
Security forces killed a bandit during a fierce gun battle at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, after suspected armed assailants attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter on Wednesday night, July 1, 2026.
The attack occurred around 11pm, and security operatives swiftly engaged the gunmen in a coordinated response, forcing them to retreat. Dr. Osime Samuel, Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
One Bandit Killed, Several Injured
According to Dr. Osime, one of the attackers was killed during the exchange, while several others escaped with varying degrees of injuries. The security forces successfully prevented the assailants from gaining access to the institute.
The identity of the deceased bandit has not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, which has experienced sporadic attacks in recent years.
