Two Trapped, Five Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Truck Collision

A severe auto crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State resulted in two persons being trapped under a truck and five others sustaining injuries, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The incident, which occurred on Monday night, involved a collision between two heavily loaded trailers, causing significant disruption and requiring emergency response efforts.

Details of the Accident

The accident involved a black CNHTC HOWO trailer with registration number TTD-145ZY, which was carrying iron rods, and a white Sinotruck without a registration number, transporting unidentified materials. The FRSC spokesperson for Ogun State Command, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed in a statement from Abeokuta that the crash led to seven male adult occupants being affected, with two trapped under the Sinotruck and five others injured to varying degrees.

Odunsi attributed the cause of the accident to speed violations and loss of control, highlighting common factors in road safety incidents on this busy corridor. The superintendent route commander reported that all victims, including the two trapped individuals, have been rescued and taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment.

Recovery and Safety Measures

Currently, the two trucks are wedged together on the expressway, necessitating the use of heavy-duty cranes for separation and removal to clear the obstruction. The FRSC has emphasized the importance of safety for motorists and recovery teams during this process.

Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists to exercise extreme patience, maintain lane discipline, and follow instructions from traffic officers on-site. He also advised travelers to consider alternative routes where possible until the expressway is fully reopened, with further updates to be provided once clearance is complete.

This incident underscores ongoing road safety challenges on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a critical transportation link in Nigeria, and serves as a reminder for drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution.
