The Atiku Media Office has dismissed allegations made by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, describing him as being in a state of stupor. The office stated that Lawal's comments came while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was actively condemning, empathizing with victims, and proffering solutions to terrorist and banditry attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other states.
Response to Babachir Lawal's Claims
Atiku's spokesperson, Paul Ibe, expressed amusement but concern over Lawal's mental state, noting his attempt to revise his own disgraceful public service record. Ibe highlighted that instead of addressing his ignominious role in an alleged scam to rig the ADC presidential primary, Lawal resorted to personal attacks against Atiku.
Atiku's Record on Security
Ibe stated that it is public record that Atiku has consistently spoken against terrorist and banditry attacks. Despite being a Fulani from Adamawa, Atiku has forcefully condemned these attacks and the escalating wave of kidnappings across Nigeria. He often criticizes the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the security architecture is collapsing and that officials rely on empty statements rather than decisive action.
Atiku advocates for an overhaul of Nigeria's counterterrorism framework, including legislation to allow state governments to arm their security outfits with modern weapons. He also emphasizes local intelligence gathering and has proposed a National Victims and Survivors Support Framework for psychological support, education, and economic recovery. Additionally, he supports a Special Court to try criminals and impose capital punishment.
Ibe advised Lawal to review news reports where Atiku spoke against terrorism and banditry, covering every state without exception.
