Barcelona's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, though the club expects him to be fit for the upcoming World Cup.
The 18-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo. Yamal opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 40th minute but immediately signaled to the bench before collapsing to the ground, clutching his left hamstring.
Barcelona confirmed the diagnosis on Thursday, stating: "The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup."
The reigning La Liga champions currently sit atop the table, nine points clear of rivals Real Madrid, with six games remaining, including a home clash against Madrid on May 10.
Spain kicks off their World Cup campaign in Group H against Cape Verde on June 15, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay on June 27.
