Spotify Launches Green Check Badge to Verify Human Artists
Spotify Green Check Badge for Human Artists

Spotify has unveiled a new verification system called 'Verified by Spotify,' designed to help listeners differentiate authentic human artists from AI-generated content. The badge, a green checkmark displayed on artist profiles and search results, will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Eligibility Criteria

According to the company, only artists meeting specific authenticity criteria will qualify. These include consistent listener engagement, compliance with platform rules, and evidence of a genuine presence beyond Spotify—such as live performances or active social media accounts.

'In the AI era, it’s more important than ever to be able to trust the authenticity of the music you listen to,' Spotify stated.

The company added that more than 99 percent of artists users actively search for are expected to be verified at launch, covering hundreds of thousands of musicians across various genres and regions.

Rise of AI-Generated Music

This move comes as AI-generated music continues to surge across streaming platforms. Deezer recently reported that about 44 percent of daily uploads to its platform are fully AI-generated, while Apple Music has also seen a significant share of uploads created using artificial intelligence.

Spotify clarified that profiles focused primarily on AI-generated music or virtual personas will not be eligible for verification, as part of efforts to improve transparency and trust on the platform.

Enhanced Profile Features

In addition to the badge, Spotify is introducing expanded profile details for all artists, including career milestones, release history, and touring activity. The company likens these features to 'nutrition facts' for music, giving users a clearer snapshot of an artist’s credibility.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to address challenges linked to AI in music, including impersonation, spam content, and reduced discoverability for human artists.
