Anambra State Government Partners with Flutterwave to Boost Digital Economy
The Anambra State Government has announced a strategic partnership with the fintech company Flutterwave to enhance digital payments and expand e-commerce infrastructure across the state. This collaboration, revealed in a statement on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, aims to scale e-commerce activities, strengthen digital payment systems, and broaden market access for businesses in Anambra.
Governor Soludo's Vision for Digital Growth
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo described the partnership as a key initiative to formalize and grow Anambra's emerging e-commerce ecosystem. He emphasized that the move is designed to unlock new opportunities for traders, artisans, and small business owners, connecting them to wider national and global markets. According to Soludo, this will enable seamless transactions and improved digital participation for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in commercial hubs such as Onitsha, Nnewi, and Awka.
Soludo praised Flutterwave, led by co-founder and CEO Gbenga 'GB' Agboola, for its role as one of Africa's most influential fintech innovators. He noted that Flutterwave has built payment infrastructure used across continents, strengthening Africa's position in global digital commerce. "Flutterwave has demonstrated how homegrown technology can solve real African challenges at scale. This collaboration is about empowering our people to transact, grow, and compete beyond borders," the governor stated.
Focus on Small Business Empowerment
The initiative will focus on several key areas to drive growth in Anambra's digital economy. These include digitizing payment systems for small businesses, integrating logistics with payment platforms, and onboarding more traders onto online marketplaces to improve efficiency and market reach. Soludo added that the state government is committed to providing enabling infrastructure for young entrepreneurs, stating, "government is laying the foundation so our youths can build and scale their ideas without barriers."
Furthermore, Soludo extended an invitation to members of the Anambra diaspora, encouraging them to tap into the state's expanding digital opportunities and invest in its growing technology-driven economy. The Anambra State Government aims to position itself as a key digital commerce hub in Nigeria, leveraging innovation to connect local businesses to international markets "one transaction at a time."
Flutterwave's Role in Fintech Transformation
Flutterwave has been globally recognized for driving significant transformation in Africa's fintech space, particularly through its cross-border payment solutions that enable businesses to operate more competitively in the global digital economy. This partnership aligns with Flutterwave's mission to enhance digital commerce across the continent.
In related news, Governor Soludo recently expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra following his re-election, promising to perform even better in his second term. He stated, "You have not seen anything yet. Like the Americans would say, 'You ain’t seen nothing yet'," highlighting his commitment to further development in the state.
This collaboration between Anambra State and Flutterwave marks a significant step towards boosting the digital economy, with potential benefits for local businesses and the broader community.
