The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the average retail price of household kerosene (HHK) in Nigeria increased by 5.65% in March 2026, reaching N2,430.38 per litre.
This marks a significant rise compared to N2,300.46 recorded in February 2026. On a year-on-year basis, the price surged by 15.00% from N2,113.34 in March 2025.
States with Highest and Lowest Kerosene Prices
Among the states, Kebbi recorded the highest average price per litre at N3,433.99, followed by Sokoto at N3,415.06 and Niger at N3,087.40. In contrast, Bayelsa had the lowest price at N1,346.52, while Kwara and Yobe posted N1,840.30 and N1,897.02 respectively.
Zonal Price Variations
On a zonal basis, the North-West zone recorded the highest average retail price per litre at N2,788.53, followed by the North-East at N2,546.72. The South-East zone recorded the lowest average price at N2,123.84.
Kerosene Gallon Prices Also Rise
The NBS also disclosed that the average retail price for a gallon of household kerosene stood at N10,936.71 in March 2026, a 5.65% increase from N10,352.09 in February 2026. Year-on-year, the gallon price rose by 38.03% from N7,923.61 in March 2025.
Kebbi again led with the highest gallon price at N15,452.94, followed by Sokoto at N15,367.77 and Niger at N13,893.28. Bayelsa recorded the cheapest gallon at N6,059.36, with Kwara and Yobe at N8,281.33 and N8,536.58 respectively.
Zonal Analysis for Gallon Prices
The North-West zone recorded the highest average gallon price at N12,548.37, followed by the North-East at N11,460.25. The South-East had the lowest average gallon price at N9,557.29.
Meanwhile, NNPC filling stations have reduced petrol pump prices in Lagos and Abuja, following a recent price cut by Dangote Refinery.
