Reno Omokri Responds to Davido's Insults, Schools OBO on Publicity Stunt
Reno Omokri Schools Davido Over Vulgar Insults

Reno Omokri, Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, has responded to music star Davido's recent insults on social media. The controversy began after Davido performed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles wearing a customized jacket listing names of abducted schoolchildren with the message 'Bring Them Home.'

Omokri's Open Letter to Davido

In an open letter posted on his social media pages on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Omokri addressed why he criticized Davido's move. He stated that the action gave publicity to bandits and terrorists rather than pressuring the government for the children's release.

Omokri wrote: 'Dear Mr. David Adeleke, thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response to my post. Most shocking is your insult. You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you.'

He added that he was aware Davido was upset about his appeal not to use an international platform like the FIFA World Cup to give publicity to bandits and terrorists. Omokri also noted that former Anambra Governor Peter Obi praised Davido for the gesture, which may have made the singer feel compelled to defend him.

Reactions from Netizens

The social media drama has sparked reactions from Nigerians. User Kharma_24hr commented: 'That is not free publicity. He is crying indirectly. Our celebrities have the voice to speak for us too. If it doesn't make changes, your voice matters as a concerned citizen.'

Another user, Juelz Einstein, said: 'The difference here is that the countries you talked about do not negotiate with terrorists and their celebrities can visibly match words to action. Is that the case here? You guys lie, deflect, and act irresponsibly always.'

Davido's Investment in Dangote Refinery

In related news, Davido sparked debate after revealing his interest in investing in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. He posted an application form on his X page, drawing mixed reactions from fans who debated whether celebrities should keep financial moves private or use them to inspire others.
