Kwara NUJ Press Week Finale Set for May 13

The Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara State has announced the activities for its annual Press Week, with the grand finale scheduled for next Wednesday at Shalom Hall, City of Refuge, via Water View GRA, Ilorin, by 4:00pm.

Event Highlights

The event, designed to celebrate journalists, promote professional development, and strengthen collaboration between the media and critical stakeholders in governance and society, will feature David Babalola as Chairman and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as Special Guest of Honour.

Keynote and Guest Speakers

A major highlight will be presentations by two distinguished members of the Kwara State Executive Council. According to the planning committee chairman, Mallam Abdulhakeem Garba, the Keynote Speaker is Oloruntoyosi Thomas, who will discuss development, innovation, and opportunities within the evolving livestock sector, as well as the role of strategic communication in national growth.

Additionally, the Commissioner for Communication, Bola Olukoju, will deliver a special address as Guest Speaker, focusing on government-media relations, information management, and the critical role of journalism in deepening democratic governance and public accountability.

Royal Presence and Activities

The event will also feature the Royal Father of the Day, Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye, the Oloro of Oro. As part of the Press Week activities, a fitness exercise and table tennis competition will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, starting at 7:00am.

The Correspondents' Chapel stated that the event will bring together media practitioners, government officials, royal fathers, captains of industry, civil society actors, and members of the public to celebrate excellence in journalism and encourage ethical media practice.
