Tinubu vs Atiku: APC, ADC Earn N570 Million From Presidential Forms
APC, ADC Earn N570 Million From Presidential Forms

President Bola Tinubu and his closest rival from the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, are on track for a potential rematch in 2027. Both political figures have purchased their parties' tickets to contest the upcoming primaries.

APC and ADC Generate N570 Million From Presidential Forms

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have collectively earned N570 million from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms. Two individuals have bought the APC presidential ticket, priced at N100 million each, bringing the party's revenue from form sales to N200 million. Meanwhile, the ADC has made N270 million after selling three presidential forms at N90 million each.

Tinubu and Atiku's Path to 2027

Tinubu will face Osifo Stanley, a businessman from Edo state, for the APC presidential ticket. Atiku, on the other hand, will compete against Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the ADC presidential primaries. If both win their party tickets, they will face each other again in the 2027 general election. Tinubu defeated Atiku in the 2023 election, securing over 8 million votes.

Atiku's Coalition Efforts and Challenges

Since his 2023 defeat, Atiku has worked to prevent Tinubu's re-election, calling on opposition leaders to form a coalition and present a single candidate. His efforts initially gained traction when opposition figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the movement. The ADC was adopted as the coalition's platform, but the alliance fractured after Obi and Kwankwaso opposed Atiku's refusal to step down and the party's reluctance to zone its presidential ticket to the south. They subsequently left the ADC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where they are expected to run a joint presidential ticket.
