SIINKO Redefines Growth of Africa's Afrobeats Artists

Record labels remain a vital component of artist development in the music industry. Music, as an expressive art form, serves cultural and universal purposes. While some artists achieve success independently, many depend on record labels for distribution, funding, and structure. In Nigeria, SIINKO has emerged as one of several independent music platforms reshaping the landscape.

Founding and Mission of SIINKO

SIINKO, a Nigerian-based independent record label, outlet, and music distributor, was founded by Chinedu Ezionu on March 4, 2021. For nearly half a decade, the label has expanded its industry presence and services, supporting emerging artists through distribution, promotion, and access to the music business. SIINKO aims to address gaps for independent African artists, particularly those in the Afrobeats genre.

The label's core mission is to enable emerging and independent artists across Africa to develop their sound at an early age and build sustainable careers over time. This initiative stems from the founder's lifelong passion for music and his experience running a popular music mashup channel on YouTube, which promoted promising African acts. That experience led to the creation of SIINKO as a dedicated platform for artist promotion.

Artist Roster and Achievements

Since its establishment in 2021, SIINKO has signed over six artists, including RunUp, Pallaso, Tibey, YoungDzee, Jaysing, and Ziza Bafana. Despite the challenges of supporting independent artists—providing full financial support, industry access, legal backup, and professional structure—SIINKO finds fulfillment in shaping artists' journeys. The label has overcome various obstacles, embracing lessons learned and building stronger relationships through networking, which is key in the industry.

SIINKO reports a catalog of over 140 recordings and more than 500 million streams across digital platforms. One of its artists, RunUp, released the track “Tsunami,” which has surpassed 12 million YouTube views. The song has won awards at the Isango na Muzika Awards (IMA) and the 2025 DIVA Awards in Rwanda, where it was named Song of the Year.

Values and Artist Selection

SIINKO prides itself on maintaining high standards, with no tolerance for laziness, indolence, cheating, or other vices. Every management staff member is positioned to strategically shape the brand of each signed artist, foster creativity, and protect their works. When scouting for new talent, SIINKO evaluates authenticity, uniqueness, and a clear message in the artist's music. Additionally, the label assesses the artist's mindset, work ethic, openness to development, and seriousness to ensure alignment in goals and growth.

Since its founding in 2021, SIINKO has positioned itself as a platform supporting independent African artists with a primary focus on Afrobeats. Founded by Nigerian music executive Chinedu Ezionu, the record label and music outlet has provided opportunities to young African artists and continues to work with artists across different markets, including RunUp, Pallaso, Ziza Bafana, and others.
