Woman Overcomes Postpartum Complications

A Nigerian woman, Mariam Duku Agbatse, has shared her remarkable transformation after being diagnosed with Bell's palsy and high blood pressure following the birth of her twins. In a Facebook post on Saturday, June 2026, she recounted her difficult pregnancy and the health challenges she faced.

Difficult Pregnancy and Health Issues

Mariam, a mother of four, revealed that during her twin pregnancy she could not move without a walking stick. She delivered the twins at 32 weeks via cesarean section. After delivery, she developed high blood pressure, Bell's palsy (half paralysis of the face), an ear infection, and loss of abdominal elasticity.

“You see this walking stick, without it, I couldn’t move that year,” she wrote. “This was pregnancy for twins. I wasn’t even close to delivery yet. Even though I had them at 32 weeks.”

Transformation Through Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle

Despite the odds, Mariam achieved a full recovery through consistent workouts and a healthy lifestyle. She encouraged other mothers to prioritize their health. “If you told me I’d get myself back after carrying twins I’d punch you then. But look at me now. What workout, and healthy lifestyle won’t do does not exist,” she said.

She urged mothers to join a gym or simply take walks. “Mommas, go and pay for a gym tomorrow. Better still, take a walk na. Na beg I Dey beg o. #dailymotivation #twins #blessed #gym #WellnessJourney #weightloss”

Her story serves as an inspiration to many women facing postpartum health challenges, demonstrating that recovery is possible with determination and self-care.
