The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) has praised President Bola Tinubu over the recent cabinet reshuffle, describing the move as a bold and timely intervention aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The group said the decision reflected responsive leadership and demonstrated the President's willingness to take decisive action in the national interest.
BAT-IG noted that the development came days after it issued an open letter to the President on April 14, urging stronger accountability measures and a performance-based assessment of political office holders across government institutions. According to the group, the letter emphasised the need for measurable outcomes from appointees, stressing that leadership appointments must translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
In a statement, BAT-IG referenced the official announcement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, which confirmed changes in the Federal Executive Council, including the exit of the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa. Under the new arrangement, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele was named Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma was nominated to head the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The group said the reshuffle aligned with its earlier call for action against underperformance and signalled that the administration was committed to improving efficiency in governance. It, however, urged the President not to stop at the latest changes, but to extend reforms to other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that it said had shown limited impact since the administration came into office.
BAT-IG expressed concern that several agencies had failed to effectively translate the President's policy direction into visible results, adding that weak implementation and lack of innovation were slowing national development. The group further warned that public officials relying on political connections rather than performance should see the reshuffle as a clear signal that accountability must remain central to public service.
While commending the President's action, BAT-IG called for a broader review of political appointees at federal, state and local government levels, insisting that those who failed to justify the confidence placed in them should face appropriate sanctions. It also urged that officials whose conduct or poor performance had damaged the image of the administration should not be considered for future appointments.
Reaffirming its support for President Tinubu, the group prayed for wisdom and courage for the President as he continues efforts to reposition governance and deliver meaningful progress to Nigerians.
