ICPC Denies ₦50bn Bribery Video, Threatens Legal Action Over AI-Generated Disinformation

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a strong denial regarding a widely circulated video that alleges a ₦50 billion bribery scandal involving the agency. In a statement released on Monday, the commission described the video as false, misleading, and partly generated using artificial intelligence, urging the public to disregard it entirely.

Fabricated Content and AI Manipulation

Spokesperson J. Okor Odey emphasized that the viral content has no connection whatsoever to any of the commission's operations or ongoing investigations. He stated that the individuals, claims, and visuals featured in the video were deliberately fabricated to deceive viewers and damage the agency's hard-earned credibility.

"The content being circulated is entirely false. The images, names, and narratives presented are manufactured and, in some cases, AI-generated to mislead the public," Odey declared. This revelation highlights the growing sophistication of disinformation campaigns that leverage artificial intelligence to create convincing but fraudulent content.

No Investigation Exists

The commission provided specific clarification regarding the allegations, stressing that it is not investigating any individual in relation to the purported ₦50 billion bribery claim. This includes:

  • Senior Advocates of Nigeria
  • Legal practitioners
  • Members of the judiciary

"For clarity, no such case, transaction, or investigation exists within the records of the commission," the statement added definitively, leaving no room for ambiguity about the matter.

Legal Consequences and Public Warning

The ICPC issued a stern warning to those responsible for creating and disseminating the deceptive video, demanding they immediately cease their actions. The commission noted it would pursue legal measures against anyone found culpable in the creation or distribution of the false content.

Furthermore, the agency cautioned against the dangerous trend of misinformation disguised as legitimate digital content, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to transparency and fact-based investigations. The ICPC urged all Nigerians to rely exclusively on its official communication channels for accurate updates and to avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine public trust in institutions.
