Youths of Nnewi Federal Constituency in Anambra State have issued a strong warning to Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), rejecting the party's primary election results. The youths, under the umbrella of Concerned NDC Youths, held an emergency meeting in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, on Wednesday, June 17, and declared that the results circulating on social media do not reflect what actually happened during the primaries.
Youths Question Vote Figures
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the youths expressed surprise that after waiting two weeks for the release of the primary election results, the figures shared on social media appeared predetermined. They stated that on May 29, 2026, NDC youths and their parents stood under sun and rain to choose a credible candidate who would fly the party's flag and win the general election.
The youths claimed they stood firmly behind Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa, believing he would provide quality representation. However, the results show that incumbent lawmaker Hon. Peter Uzokwe won with 2,090 votes. The youths questioned how this was possible given the registered membership numbers: 1,040 in Nnewi North, 1,002 in Nnewi South, and 988 in Ekwusigo.
According to the communiqué, Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa polled 1,014 votes in Nnewi North, 500 votes in Nnewi South, and about 53 votes in Ekwusigo, with the remaining votes split among Hon. Peter Uzokwe and other aspirants like Hon. Smart Okafor and Hon. Obunike Ohaegbu.
Youths Demand Authentic Results
The youths called on the NDC and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who hails from Anambra State, to release the names of candidates who actually won the party's primaries or face the wrath of the youths. They insisted that the party must retrieve the fake results and issue what represents the people's mandate.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson of the youths, Comrade Edwin Ikegwuonu, stated that Nnewi Federal Constituency must not give Uzokwe another opportunity due to his poor performance at the National Assembly. He warned that if the party leadership imposes candidates, the youths will reject them at the polls on January 16, 2027.
Ikegwuonu noted that in 2023, people picked from the streets rode on Peter Obi's shoulder to win elections but disappointed their supporters. He vowed that such a situation will not happen in 2027, and if the NDC rejects the choice made on May 29, 2026, the youths will also reject the party come January 16, 2027.
The development has heightened tension in Anambra State as the 2027 general elections approach.
