Ex-Kogi Commissioner Mohammed Yusuf Declares for 2027 House of Reps Seat
In a significant political development, former Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Mohammed Yusuf, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The announcement was made during a well-attended event held at the LGEA Osisi Primary School Field on Saturday, where Yusuf presented his campaign manifesto to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), supporters, and key community stakeholders.
Grassroots Development and Effective Representation
Addressing the gathering, the APC aspirant emphasized that his political ambition is driven by a deep-seated desire to enhance grassroots development and provide effective representation for the people of Adavi/Okehi. Yusuf articulated that his candidacy would align with and build upon the development agenda of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly in advancing critical infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities within the constituency.
"I envision a constituency where the voices of the people are amplified, where youths are empowered, women are supported, and communities truly benefit from democratic governance," Yusuf stated passionately during his address.
Campaign Anchored on Experience and Track Record
Yusuf underscored that his campaign is not merely based on promises but is firmly anchored on his extensive experience and proven track record in public service. He pledged to serve as a vital link between the people and government institutions, ensuring that the needs and aspirations of his constituents are effectively communicated and addressed at the national level.
Outlining his key priorities, Yusuf highlighted several focus areas essential for the constituency's progress:
- Road Infrastructure: Commitment to improving and expanding road networks to enhance connectivity and economic activities.
- Youth Empowerment: Initiatives aimed at providing vocational training, ICT development, and startup support to foster self-reliance among young people.
- Education: Enhancing educational facilities and access to quality education for all age groups.
- Economic Development: Strategies to boost local economies and create sustainable job opportunities.
"Our youths are the backbone of our communities. Beyond training, we will empower them to become self-reliant and productive," he affirmed, highlighting the critical role of youth in driving future growth.
Prioritizing Basic Amenities and Transparent Leadership
On the issue of basic amenities, Yusuf identified access to clean water as a critical need within the constituency. He pledged to prioritize the revitalization of the Osara Dam to improve water supply across Adavi/Okehi, stating, "Access to potable water is a fundamental right, not a privilege."
The former commissioner also assured constituents of his commitment to transparent and accountable leadership, promising regular engagement and openness in the execution of constituency projects. "This mandate belongs to the people. Your voices will always count in every decision we make," he declared, emphasizing a participatory approach to governance.
Political Background and Early Support
Yusuf expressed confidence that his prior experience in governance has adequately prepared him for the legislative responsibilities at the National Assembly. Before his resignation, he served as Commissioner for Works and had previously worked as Senior Special Assistant on Solid Minerals. He stepped down from his cabinet position in March 2026 to pursue his political ambition, in compliance with electoral regulations. Following his exit, Ozigi Salami Deedat was appointed as his replacement.
Political stakeholders in the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency have reportedly thrown their support behind Yusuf, signaling early momentum and a favorable reception as the 2027 elections approach. This development marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Kogi State, with Yusuf positioning himself as a candidate focused on tangible development and responsive representation.
