Wike Appoints Retired Director as Senior Special Assistant

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has appointed Alhaji Onsachi Musa Idris as the new Senior Special Assistant on Procurement. The announcement was made by Lere Olayinka, the minister's spokesperson, in a statement issued on Friday, April 24.

Idris's Career Background

According to the statement, Idris served as the Director of Procurement for the FCT Administration (FCTA) from July 2021 until his retirement from the civil service on Friday, April 24, 2026. Olayinka described Idris as a seasoned public servant with over 30 years of experience in public sector procurement, administration, and finances.

Idris previously held the position of Director of Common Service (Procurement) in August 2019 before being redeployed to the Department of Procurement as Director in July 2021. During his tenure, he played a key role in overseeing procurement processes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. His extensive experience across major administrative and procurement functions has contributed to the efficiency and service delivery of the institution.

Second FCTA Director Appointed by Wike

Idris is the second FCTA director to receive a post-retirement appointment from Wike. In January, the minister appointed Sani Musa Daura as his Senior Special Assistant on Protocol Matters. Daura, a seasoned civil servant with over 30 years in the FCTA Protocol Department, retired from the civil service on January 24, 2026. His appointment took effect from the date of his retirement.

This development comes amid ongoing industrial action by workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), which has paralyzed activities at the FCTA and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) since Monday, January 17. The strike followed a circular issued late Sunday night directing all employees to stay away from work.

Wike's Criticism of Atiku Abubakar

In related news, Wike recently launched a fresh attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who had criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, described Atiku as a serial contestant and loser in Nigeria's political sphere, alleging that Atiku continues to contest elections to remain relevant.
