The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially responded to a viral video that showed a controversial passage in a nursery school English textbook. In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the material in question is not among the approved or recommended textbooks for use in public or recognized private schools across the state.
Investigation Ordered
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings have traced the school featured in the video to Ojo Local Government Area. Both the school and the publisher have been identified for further action.
Government Stance
The Ministry emphasized that only government-approved, age-appropriate, and morally sound educational materials are permitted in schools throughout Lagos. This development follows a mother's online complaint about a disturbing passage in her five-year-old child's textbook. She later alleged that she was being threatened over the video she posted.
The Lagos State Government reassures the public that it remains committed to maintaining high standards in educational content and will take necessary steps to prevent the use of unapproved materials.
