A civil society organisation (CSO) has issued a strong appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to guarantee a fair trial and provide immediate access to legal representation for Mr. Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi. The group has raised serious concerns over alleged violations of his fundamental rights, emphasising the need for due process and transparency in the ongoing case.

During a press conference, CSO leader Kolawole Emmanuel underscored the importance of adhering to established legal procedures. He called on police authorities to transfer the matter to a neutral and independent investigative unit, arguing that such a step would help restore public confidence in the judicial process. The organisation expressed particular unease about the continued supervision of the case by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 2, Jimoh Moshood Olorundare, suggesting that the circumstances of Akanbi's detention raise questions about impartiality.

The case is reportedly linked to a long-standing dispute within the Ojomu Royal Family in Ajiran, located in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State. The conflict centres on control over ancestral lands and has deeply divided the community into opposing factions. Akanbi, identified as the Chairman of the Youth Wing of the royal family, is a key figure in this crisis. The CSO referenced allegations involving individuals such as Bashir Fakorede and senior lawyer Muiz Banire, but stressed that all claims must undergo proper judicial scrutiny to ensure fairness.
