Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have announced their political collaboration aimed at developing the country. The two leaders held a closed-door meeting on Thursday at the Presidential wing of the Government House in Bauchi.
Meeting Details
Addressing the press after the meeting, Obi explained that he brought stakeholders from the South East region to seek collaboration with the North East. He emphasized that the purpose of his visit was to solicit the support and cooperation of Governor Bala Mohammed and the stakeholders of Bauchi and the North East in their quest to unite the country.
Obi stated that they are working towards a united country to build a future for the children. He noted that the country cannot continue on its current path, saying, "We are headed in the wrong direction, and we need to reverse that for everybody."
Call for a New Nigeria
"That is why we are asking for purpose to seek the support of the stakeholders of Bauchi in building a new Nigeria. That will be for the benefit of all, building that Nigeria that we used to be, where a child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody," Obi added.
In response, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed gratitude for the visit, describing Obi as bringing "a torchlight for us, a torchlight that really we want to hold because he is talking about unifying the country and building the country. We are building bridges and creating a new tomorrow for this country."
Commitment to Unity
Mohammed emphasized that this aligns with what they stand for as a state and as a people. He highlighted the honor of hosting eminent persons from the South, noting that it was not a visit from just one state but a collective effort. "It is something that we take with a lot of respect and it is so important to us," he said.
The governor added that the team did not come asking for anything other than partnership, cooperation, and synergy to rekindle and build the country, and to recreate the balance of power that their forefathers had created before, which has been abandoned.
Olive Branch Extended
Mohammed noted that Obi has been visiting health institutions and education facilities, but this time he came with a lot of olive leaf that he wants to extend to them. "We have given him all the assurances and our respect and our team and the leaders he has brought because all of them are known. So I think I will not say much. It is just about building synergy and cooperation for the unity, progress and development of this country," he concluded.
