ADC Breaks Silence on Court Ruling Over Party Leadership Crisis
ADC Breaks Silence on Court Ruling Over Party Crisis

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has broken its silence following a Federal High Court ruling that has deepened the party's internal crisis. The court, presided over by Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, reportedly ordered the removal of elected but not yet inaugurated State Chairmen.

ADC Responds to Court Ruling

On April 29, 2026, the ADC issued a statement on social media platform X, addressing the media reports about the court judgement. The party acknowledged the reports and clarified its position regarding the leadership dispute.

“The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to media reports that the Federal High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, has sacked the elected, but yet to be inaugurated, State Chairmen of our party,” the statement read.

Party Clarifies Tenure of Executives

The ADC reminded the public that it had previously stated that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives. The party emphasized that these executives would serve their full term before the newly elected chairmen are inaugurated.

“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives, which will run their full course before the newly elected State Executives are inaugurated,” the party explained.

Legal Team to Review Judgement

In response to the ruling, the ADC leadership has directed its legal team to study the judgement and provide appropriate guidance. The party stated, “Nevertheless, the leadership of the ADC has instructed its legal team to review the said judgment and advise the party appropriately.”

This development highlights the ongoing internal challenges within the ADC as it seeks to balance legal rulings with its internal democratic processes. The outcome of the legal review will likely shape the next steps for the party’s leadership and its State Executives.

Background on the Crisis

The court ruling comes amid a period of uncertainty for the ADC, which has faced factional disputes. Earlier, factional national chairman Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe called on party members to remain calm and law-abiding as they await a Supreme Court judgement. He described the situation as a defining moment for the party and stressed the importance of faith in the rule of law.

The ADC's statement underscores its commitment to resolving the crisis through legal channels while maintaining stability within its ranks.
