The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has assured all aspirants of a level playing field and a free, fair House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Thursday. This comes as an aspirant, Mr. Victor Olumuyiwa Kolade, raised concerns over alleged intimidation of his supporters and claims that a preferred candidate has been adopted.
Allegations of Imposition
Speaking to journalists in Ado Ekiti, Kolade, who is contesting for the Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 seat, alleged that party officials have been telling people that the election results will be manipulated. He claimed that a particular aspirant has been boasting that the result would not even reach Ita Ore, let alone Ado Ekiti, and expressed confidence in state and party support. Kolade warned the party against imposing a candidate, citing the fate of the Peoples Democratic Party as a cautionary tale.
Party's Response
Reacting to the allegations, APC spokesman Segun Dipe stated that the party has not taken any position regarding any candidate. He emphasized the party's commitment to democratic principles and noted that individuals have the right to endorse candidates. Dipe described the screening process as one of the cleanest and fairest in Abuja, with no disqualifications to his knowledge.
Dipe further assured that the party is focused on the upcoming June 20 election and will ensure a smooth primary process. He dismissed rumors and half-truths as part of the political process, adding that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has not communicated any preference for a candidate. “All is fair in this context. At the end of the day, we will have our candidates and our home will be intact,” Dipe concluded.
