The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has publicly rejected and distanced itself from the reported intention of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party has labeled the move a profound act of betrayal against the party's trust and its supporters.
Party Leadership Issues Stern Warning
Addressing the press on Monday, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, made the party's position unequivocally clear. He stated that the planned defection by Governor Yusuf was unacceptable and that the party's national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, along with the party's structures at both state and national levels, were not in support of the development.
"We are aware of the developments in Kano State concerning some individuals who intend to defect to the APC," Dungurawa declared. He emphasized that the party leadership had tried to persuade those involved to remain patient and stay within the NNPP fold, out of responsibility to the people of Kano, but these efforts had proven difficult.
A Plea to Uphold Party Sanctity and Ideals
Dungurawa issued a direct appeal and a warning. He called on the governor to respect the party's integrity and withdraw any political alignment with the APC. Furthermore, he cautioned all party leaders and members of the NNPP caucus against signing any documents presented at the Government House, which he attributed to the actions of mischief-makers.
"Therefore, on behalf of all of us collectively, we once again appeal to them, for the sake of Allah and the Prophet, not to leave this party and not to defect to the party that we have opposed and which the masses and other voters have rejected," the chairman stated passionately.
Reaffirming Commitment to Kwankwasiyya and the People
In his address, Dungurawa strongly reaffirmed the NNPP's unwavering loyalty to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the founder of the Kwankwasiyya movement. He expressed the hope that elected officials would remain in the party to fulfill its constitutional mandates of improving education, agriculture, commerce, and alleviating the suffering of the people.
The chairman concluded with a call to action, urging the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large to continue their support for the NNPP and Senator Kwankwaso to ensure success in future elections. This public denouncement sets the stage for a significant political rift within the party's stronghold in Kano State.
