The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the Ogun East Senatorial District, Giwa Wasiu Odulana Adetayo, popularly called Ajirotutu, has officially entered the race, presenting himself as a youthful alternative following the emergence of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate.
Declaration at Ward 3 Secretariat
Speaking at the PDP Ward 3 Secretariat in Itantebo, Ijebu-Ode, Ajirotutu anchored his ambition on the need for generational leadership change. He stressed that the future of the district depends on young, forward-thinking leaders. Describing himself as “young, vibrant, and capable,” the aspirant said his entry into the race aims to reposition Ogun East through strategic development across its nine local government areas.
Key Pillars of Agenda
Ajirotutu identified infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment as the key pillars of his agenda. He noted that his professional background as an estate developer gives him an advantage in addressing infrastructural deficits in the district. He also pledged to initiate programmes encouraging more young people to return to school while creating opportunities for economic growth.
Confidence and Grassroots Connection
His declaration adds a new dimension to the contest as he prepares to face established political figures from rival parties. However, Ajirotutu expressed confidence in his chances, citing his strong connection with grassroots youths and the energy he brings to the race.
Party Support for Internal Democracy
The event also highlighted increasing political activity within the PDP in Ogun East. Party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to internal democracy. The PDP State Vice Chairman, Otunba Ayinde Awobadejo, assured aspirants of a transparent and level playing field ahead of the primaries.
With the presence of key stakeholders, including the State Organising Secretary and local government party leaders, Ajirotutu’s declaration underscores the growing importance of youth participation and party cohesion as the 2027 political landscape in Ogun East begins to take shape.
