A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, has signalled his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, vowing to unseat Governor Caleb Mutfwang and deliver people-oriented policies anchored on inclusive growth.
Ropshik, a philanthropist and community leader, made his ambition known while addressing a large gathering of supporters in his local government area. Although he described the meeting as informal and not an official declaration, he said the turnout reflected growing grassroots support for his aspiration.
“I am even surprised at the mammoth turnout, despite the fact that this is not an official declaration yet. I am very sure that my people and the good people of Plateau State want me, and I am fully prepared to make them proud,” he said.
He pledged to prioritise policies that directly impact citizens, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, education, and social welfare, stressing that governance must be driven by the needs of the people rather than political interests.
Ropshik, who is widely known for his humanitarian interventions, said his leadership would be rooted in service, empathy, and inclusiveness. He stated, “Our state is blessed, but our people are hurting. Insecurity has taken too many lives, destroyed livelihoods, and created fear in our communities. If given the mandate, I will prioritise the protection of lives and property as the foundation for every other development. We will deploy a people-driven security architecture that involves communities, traditional institutions, and security agencies working together. Plateau must be safe again for farmers, traders, students, and investors.”
On unemployment, the PDP chieftain said his administration would focus on empowering youths through skills development and support for businesses. He added, “Youth unemployment is not just an economic issue; it is a security risk. We will invest in skills acquisition, support small and medium enterprises, and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Our young people must be productively engaged and empowered to build their future here in Plateau.”
