The Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to adopt consensus as the strategic mode of election to produce its candidates for the governorship, National Assembly, and the 24-member State Assembly seats in the 2027 general elections.
Stakeholders' Meeting in Damaturu
Speaking over the weekend in Damaturu during the party's stakeholders' meeting, Senator Ahmed Lawan, representing Yobe North Senatorial District, disclosed that out of the two modes contained in the Electoral Act, comprising consensus and direct primaries, the party in the state has chosen to adopt consensus, citing past success.
"From our previous experience, consensus has always worked for us in this state," the ex-Senate President noted. He added that any candidate that emerges for any position will receive the support of all party members, including those who might have wished they were the ones picked.
Endorsement of President Tinubu
The ruling party also noted that it has various avenues for reaching out to unsuccessful aspirants, stating that this is not something new for them to do, particularly as the country's forthcoming general elections draw nearer. The Yobe APC formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, pledging to deliver 3.5 million votes to him in the 2027 presidential election.
"We are very mindful of the performance of this administration, the various interventions and reforms introduced by the federal government, which have started yielding very positive results," said Lawan at the stakeholders' meeting.
Expected Higher Votes
All state APC candidates for governor, National Assembly, and State Assembly are expected, by the grace of God, to receive higher votes than they did in the 2023 general elections. The party attributed its electorate's confidence to internal unity, describing Yobe as a political family.
The National Assembly members from the state have also worked very closely and harmoniously with the state government under the APC, especially during the Gaidam administration and the current administration of Buni.
"As a small state, we have produced election results that compare favorably against results from even bigger states. That is because of our unity, the understanding we have shown for each other, and the love we have for each other," he stated.
Commitment to Good Governance
Leaders, elders, stakeholders, and other members will continue to support one another and deliver results at the 2027 general polls that compete favorably, by achieving the highest percentage performance in Nigeria. In return for this enormous political support, the ruling party promised to ensure good governance in the state.
