Akpabio Commissions Lagos Projects, Tasks States on Building a Modern Nigeria
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphasized that Nigeria must look to Lagos State as a benchmark for progress and exemplary governance. Speaking during the commissioning of three significant projects executed by the Lagos State government, Akpabio commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his administration for their focused and disciplined financial management, stating that they have demonstrated governance must prioritize service delivery.
Projects Align with National Vision
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the ceremony, Akpabio highlighted that the commissioned projects align with the national vision for a modern, digitally enabled, and economically strong Nigeria. He urged other states to replicate this standard across the country, citing Governor Sanwo-Olu's administration as a model to follow.
The three projects inaugurated include:
- The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge
- The Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Building
- The Lagos State Multi-Agency Building
Sanwo-Olu's Commitment to Infrastructure and Quality of Life
In his welcome address, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined his administration's goals for the remaining 416 days before handing over. He pledged to double investment in infrastructure, strengthen institutions, and achieve intentional improvements in the quality of life for Lagos residents.
"As we commission these projects, we are also mindful that there is still more to be done," Sanwo-Olu said. "In the 400-plus days that lie ahead, we will double down on our investment in infrastructure, the strengthening of our institutions, and intentional improvements in the quality of life for all Lagosians."
He emphasized that winding down is not an excuse to slow down or lower standards, but rather an opportunity to ramp up momentum energetically towards the finish line.
Reflecting on Achievements and Future Goals
Sanwo-Olu expressed pride in the achievements over the past seven years under the THEMES+ vision reform umbrella. He acknowledged President Tinubu's unwavering support for Lagos State, which has significantly impacted the outcomes delivered.
The governor noted that Lagos, like other states, has benefited from increased revenues, enabling more ambitious approaches to serving the people. With 416 days left out of the 2,922-day mandate, he reaffirmed the commitment to leaving Lagos better than it was met, inspired by the legacy of past leaders who set defining standards.
