Feminist Reveals Husband Spent Under N180k on Marriage List

Nkechi Bianze, a well-known Nigerian feminist and data professional, married Prince Ifeanyi Mmadinobi on July 17, 2021, in Owa, Delta State. Recently, she disclosed details about her wedding expenses, sparking discussions on social media.

Feminist Shares Wedding Contribution Details

In a Facebook post on April 28, Nkechi addressed the trending topic of whether brides should contribute financially to their weddings. She explained that in her hometown, Akumazi Umuocha, Ika North Local Government Area, Delta State, it is customary for women to support wedding costs. Nkechi and her two married sisters each contributed at least 45% to their respective wedding expenses.

She further revealed that the bride price and traditional marriage list are very affordable in her area. Her husband spent less than N180,000 on the traditional marriage list, and the bride price was only N5,000, which they chose to skip. In 2026, she estimates that N300,000 would cover both.

Reactions from Social Media Users

Many Facebook users commented on her post. Divine Favour Abraham noted that in her culture, a higher list increases the man's valuation of the woman. Charity Nwachendu Ekeh advised women who contributed to not demand full payment from their partners. Faustina Chiamaka Sampson agreed that social media debates often ignore reality. Others thanked Nkechi for sharing her perspective.

Nkechi admitted that she only realized on social media that her practice was considered unusual, as she grew up viewing it as normal. She emphasized that women from wealthier families or those more financially stable than their partners often happily cover wedding costs.

This story echoes a previous report where actress Tonto Dikeh revealed funding her wedding to ex-husband Churchill entirely. In another related story, a lady broke down her N56.6 million wedding expenses in early 2024, covering decoration, attire, venue, food, and more.
