NYF Backs Tinubu, Slams ADC Over Politicization of Sokoto Airstrikes
NYF Faults ADC on Sokoto Airstrikes Claims, Backs Tinubu

The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) has strongly rejected attempts by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to link the recent airstrikes in Sokoto State to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a statement released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the youth group labeled the ADC's assertions as misleading and politically motivated.

NYF Condemns Politicization of Security Matter

Issued by its Northwest Coordinator, Saminu Tukur, the NYF statement expressed concern over what it described as the ADC's dangerous politicization of a sensitive national security issue. The group was referring to the airstrikes that occurred on December 25, 2025, in Sokoto State, an operation involving foreign military intervention on Nigerian soil.

The NYF argued that such inflammatory rhetoric could demoralize Nigeria's security forces and empower elements seeking to destabilize the nation. "The ADC’s assertion that these military actions are a direct result of the alleged incompetence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is not only misleading but also an affront to the resilience and determination of our national security apparatus," Tukur stated.

Calls for Transparency and Historical Context

The group emphasized the need for clarity and accountability regarding the outcomes of the Sokoto operation. It specifically urged the relevant authorities to disclose the number of terrorists neutralized, stating that such transparency is vital for maintaining public trust and demonstrating the effectiveness of counterterrorism efforts.

Furthermore, the NYF provided crucial historical context, stressing that Nigeria's security challenges are long-standing. The group noted that the issues of terrorism and insecurity were inherited from previous administrations, including those of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

"The current administration has inherited a landscape fraught with complexities, and it is disingenuous for the ADC to ignore this historical context in their critique," the statement added.

Appeal for National Unity and Constructive Dialogue

Moving beyond criticism, the Northern Youth Frontiers issued a call for national unity. It urged all political parties, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to rise above partisan politics and engage in constructive dialogue focused on citizen welfare.

The NYF reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu's administration and called for a collaborative approach to devising comprehensive strategies that address the root causes of insecurity while strengthening military capabilities.

"The time for division is over; what we need now is collaboration and a commitment to the greater good of Nigeria," the statement concluded, urging the ADC and others to prioritize the security and well-being of citizens over political expediency.
