The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has taken a decisive step to address the lingering traditional leadership tussle in Ido. On Monday, 12 January 2026, the monarch inaugurated a three-member investigative panel tasked with probing the crisis over the Onido stool, where three individuals are laying claim to the same traditional authority.
Composition and Mandate of the Probe Panel
The decision to form the panel was reached during the first meeting of the year for the Olubadan-in-Council, held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan. Oba Ladoja charged the committee to carry out its assignment with diligence, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility. He emphasized the palace's commitment to resolving the matter in a way that restores harmony and upholds the integrity of Ibadanland's traditional institutions.
The panel is chaired by the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi. A key member is the Ekerin Balogun, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, who also serves as the Acting Chairman of the Ido Traditional Council. The Aare-Ago Balogun, Chief Lateef Adetokunbo Akintola, will function as the Secretary and a member of the committee.
A Thorough and Transparent Investigation
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Oba Adewoyin, speaking for the Olubadan-in-Council, stated that the panel was carefully selected for its experience, credibility, and familiarity with traditional administration. The committee has been mandated to examine all issues surrounding the dispute, including historical claims, customary practices, and recent developments that fueled the crisis.
The panel is expected to start work immediately and has been given one month to complete its assignment and submit a comprehensive report. Oba Adewoyin confirmed that the committee would be open to receiving memoranda, documents, and relevant information from the public and knowledgeable stakeholders. "The chairman has made it clear that the committee will be thorough and transparent in its work. Anyone with useful information is free to come forward within the time frame," he said.
A Proactive Step for Peace and Order
The Onido stool crisis has caused significant concern within Ido and its environs, with community leaders and residents calling for swift intervention to prevent further tension. The Olubadan's move to set up the probe panel is widely viewed as a proactive step to forestall escalation and ensure the dispute is resolved according to tradition and justice.
The Olubadan-in-Council reiterated its role as the apex traditional authority in Ibadanland and its commitment to maintaining order among subordinate traditional institutions. The palace expressed optimism that the panel's work would help clarify the contentious issues and strengthen confidence in the traditional dispute-resolution mechanisms within Ibadanland.
