Only God Can End Insecurity, Says Defence Minister

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has stated that only God Almighty can ultimately bring an end to the insecurity challenges plaguing Nigeria. The former Zamfara State governor made this remark while reacting to the rising wave of violence across the country.

Minister Calls for Collective Action

Matawalle emphasized that insecurity remains a national challenge requiring collaborative efforts from both security agencies and citizens. He urged Nigerians to support security operatives and offer prayers for peace. The minister also warned politicians against exploiting the situation for political gain.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, as reported by Daily Trust, Matawalle said: "It's disheartening, and we must all rise to ensure that security agencies and Nigerians work together to end insecurity. Insecurity does not discriminate based on political affiliation or religion. It can affect anyone."

He called on opposition parties to stop using insecurity to incite the public. "Some members of the opposition appear pleased with the situation. They do not care about the people. What matters to them is portraying the government as a failure for their own political interests."

God's Role in Ending Insecurity

"It is only God that can bring an end to this insecurity, alongside our collective prayers and efforts. It should not be used as a tool to condemn others or score political points," Matawalle added. He disclosed that security operatives are working around the clock to crush terrorists unleashing attacks on communities.

Matawalle noted that insecurity is not an isolated issue in Nigeria, stressing that security forces are making progress despite the challenges.

Recent Attacks

Armed bandits attacked Pissa village in Niger State, resulting in three deaths and the destruction of homes. The military engaged the bandits during the assault, but details remain unclear. State police confirmed the incident and urged community vigilance.

In a separate incident, traditional ruler Adeniyi Adelana was kidnapped by armed bandits in Ondo State during a late-night attack. The gunmen shot the monarch's wife, who is receiving medical treatment. Police have launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the kidnapped ruler.

The rising insecurity has prompted calls for stronger measures, but Matawalle insists that divine intervention, combined with human effort, is the ultimate solution.
