The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has publicly and firmly reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his political allegiance is unambiguous as the nation looks towards the 2027 general elections.
Wike Dismisses Doubts Over His Political Alignment
Speaking at a media engagement in Port Harcourt on Monday, December 28, 2025, the former Rivers State governor expressed bewilderment that anyone would question where his loyalties lie. He emphasized that he has been vocal and transparent about his backing for the President.
"How could that be a direct reaction when everyone in Nigeria knows that I am one of the supporters of Tinubu? I have said it openly. I'm working for Tinubu, how could anyone doubt that?" Wike stated during the parley.
He challenged the notion of covert support, questioning who exactly was supporting the President in a secretive manner, making it clear that his own approach is forthright.
Addressing Rumours of Division and Abuja Meeting
Wike also moved to quell speculation about fractures within his political circle, describing such narratives as often inflated. While admitting that politics is rarely without disagreement, he insisted that these are normal and should not be sensationalized.
Specifically, he addressed circulating reports about a contentious meeting in Abuja involving high-profile figures. Wike flatly denied the incident, saying, "It was alleged that there was a meeting that broke out in Abuja. No, there was no such thing between the President, the Speaker, and the Leader."
He attributed such gossip to political immaturity, suggesting that "when politicians are economically weak or immature, they talk too much."
A Call for Honesty and a Stance on Integrity
Reflecting on his political philosophy, the FCT Minister highlighted consistency and keeping one's word as pillars of credible leadership. He lamented that public distrust in politicians often stems from a pattern of broken promises.
"Most people don't trust politicians because they don't keep their word and that's very wrong. I don't want to be that kind of politician. When I say something, I go home and sleep," Wike affirmed, underscoring his reputation for standing by his declarations.
Concluding his remarks, he issued a call for integrity among the nation's leaders, urging them to confront facts with honesty. "Can anyone, in their conscience, say this or that did not happen? Let the government and its leaders speak honestly. Between themselves, they know the truth," he posed.
These statements from Nyesom Wike come at a time of heightened political maneuvering and alliance formations across Nigeria, with the 2027 presidential election already influencing strategic positioning. His message leaves no room for ambiguity regarding his current political camp.
