Bandits have killed a vigilante identified as Bawa Samari and two farmers in the Magure community, located in Dangunu ward, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack occurred on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, around 4:20 pm, according to police reports.
Details of the Attack
Sources told Daily Trust that a large number of bandits invaded the community in the evening and opened fire sporadically. A local government official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that after killing Bawa Samari, the assailants seized his pump-action gun. Four other farmers were also kidnapped during the assault, and their whereabouts remain unknown. The bandits have not yet established contact with the families of the victims.
Police Response
The Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack. He stated that a joint tactical team has been deployed to the area, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the attackers. “On 3/6/26 at about 4.20pm, bandits attacked Maguire village via S/Pawa and shot one Bawa Samari dead. Joint tactical teams mobilised to the area, and effort is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing assailants,” he said.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Niger State, where banditry and kidnapping have become prevalent. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
