Delta Police Arrest 20-Year-Old for Brother's Murder, Dismantle Motorcycle Gang
Man arrested for killing brother, police bust motorcycle gang

The Delta State Police Command has made significant breakthroughs in two major criminal cases, arresting a young man for the alleged murder of his brother and dismantling a notorious motorcycle-snatching gang.

Fraternal Tragedy in Ogwashi-Uku

In a shocking incident, police operatives have arrested a 20-year-old man, Aliyu Haman, for the alleged killing of his younger brother. The tragic event took place in the early hours of January 8, 2025, at Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station in Ogwashi-Uku.

According to the command's spokesperson, Bright Edafe, a distress call was received at about 7:31 a.m. reporting that a young male had been stabbed to death while asleep around 3:20 a.m.. The Divisional Police Officer of Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okoyomon, swiftly deployed detectives to the scene.

Preliminary investigations pointed to the victim's elder brother as the prime suspect. Aliyu Haman was immediately taken into custody, and the weapon believed to have been used in the crime was recovered. The body of the deceased has been moved to the Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-Uku for an autopsy as police work to uncover the motive behind this fratricide.

Crackdown on Agbor Motorcycle Snatchers

In a related development, the police have successfully disrupted the activities of a motorcycle-snatching gang terrorizing Agbor and its neighbouring communities. This operation is part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to curb violent crime across Delta State.

Edafe explained that the arrests followed discreet investigations into a reported armed robbery case from December 24, 2025. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives led by the DPO of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, conducted a targeted operation on January 4, 2026, at about 10:45 p.m.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects: Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32. Several items were recovered from them, including:

  • A hammer allegedly used to injure victims
  • A short knife
  • A brown face mask
  • A face cap
  • A mobile phone

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security

Reacting to these developments, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the command's top priority. He assured residents that the police would continue to confront criminal activities head-on through a combination of intelligence-driven operations, sustained patrols, and visible policing across the state.

These twin successes underscore the Delta State Police Command's proactive approach to tackling both violent personal crimes and organized robbery gangs, sending a clear message to criminals operating within its jurisdiction.
