Ogun Domestic Violence: Husband Kills Wife, Then Dies in Suspected Suicide
Ogun Couple Dies in Domestic Violence Tragedy

The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a detailed investigation into a harrowing incident of domestic violence that resulted in the deaths of a couple in the Sotubo area. The tragedy, which unfolded between January 8 and 9, 2026, saw a housewife, Ayobami Ganiyat Ayanwale, allegedly murdered by her husband, Ayoola Ayanwale, who later died in what authorities suspect was a suicide.

A Fatal Attack in Front of Children

According to reports gathered by The Guardian, the horrific event took place at the couple's home. Ayoola Ayanwale, described by neighbours as a serial perpetrator of domestic abuse, is alleged to have stabbed his wife, Ayobami, at close range. The attack occurred in the presence of their children and resulted in a wound that pierced her lungs.

Neighbours, alerted by the commotion, swiftly rushed the bleeding woman to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts and the attempts of medical personnel, doctors later pronounced her dead. Before succumbing to her injuries, the victim managed to tell those around her that she had just returned home when her husband launched an unprovoked and violent assault on her.

Husband Found Dead After Fleeing Scene

Immediately after the brutal attack, Ayoola Ayanwale fled the scene in the Ojodu Abiodun area. His disappearance prompted a search. The following day, January 9, he was discovered unresponsive in an open field in the Sotubo area. He was taken to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed he was dead.

The police are treating his death as a suspected suicide, directly linking it to the domestic violence incident from the previous day. This connection has formed the crux of the ongoing investigation.

Police Confirm Case Transfer to SCID

Confirming the sequence of events, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and thorough probe.

DSP Babaseyi explained that the command first received a report of domestic violence in Ojodu Abiodun on January 8. This report was subsequently linked to a suspected suicide case reported in Sotubo on January 9. The police are now piecing together the final moments of the couple's lives to establish a clear timeline and motive.

This tragic incident has once again cast a spotlight on the severe and often deadly consequences of domestic violence within communities, prompting calls for more robust intervention mechanisms.
