The suspect confessed to acting alone and admitted that the ransom of N500,000 was paid before the victim was killed. Efforts are ongoing to recover the victim's remains for forensic analysis, while investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice would be served. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information.

In a separate operation, the command recovered a single-barrel gun and six live cartridges from an unidentified suspect during a stop-and-search operation along the Ayetoro–Olodo Road axis. The incident occurred on April 23, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m., when a patrol team from the Ayetoro Area Command was conducting routine checks.

Babaseyi said the suspect, riding an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, fled after sighting the operatives. "In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect reportedly threw a single-barrel long gun along with six live cartridges into a nearby bush before escaping on the motorcycle," he said.

The exhibits have been recovered and secured at the command armoury, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect. Commissioner Ojajuni commended the vigilance of the operatives and reaffirmed the command's stance against illegal possession of firearms. He assured residents that measures are being taken to apprehend the fleeing suspect and curb criminal activities in the state.
