The Rumuepirikom Police Division of the Rivers State Police Command arraigned Mrs Orjiugo Udeala, proprietress of Phronesis Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. She appeared before a Magistrate's Court over the alleged assault of a 16-year-old male student. The school is located along NTA Road, Rumokwuta, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
According to the charge sheet obtained by Punch, the accused faced two counts: conspiracy and assault occasioning harm. The first count stated that Udeala and another person, still at large, conspired on June 8, 2026, at the school premises within the Rumuepirikom Magisterial District to commit a felony, namely assault occasioning harm. This offence is punishable under Section 516(A) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
The second count alleged that on the same date and location, Udeala and her accomplice unlawfully assaulted Gift Nwala Onyeche, a 16-year-old male student. The assault involved flogging him with a cane all over his body and delivering a fist blow to his ear and head, causing him harm. This offence is punishable under Section 355 of the same Criminal Code.
Udeala pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in court. The presiding Magistrate, Charles Wobisike Akpeh, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety must reside within the court's jurisdiction. The case was adjourned to August 10, 2026, for further hearing.
