The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 25-year-old female student in Onitsha. The student's body was discovered on June 18, 2026. Investigators recovered a suspected suicide note at the scene. The letter detailed a distressing relationship breakup with an unidentified man named Chigozie, following three abortions.

Police Commissioner Expresses Concern

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep concern over the incident. While confirming ongoing investigations to determine the exact cause of death, CP Orutugu stressed that the tragedy highlights a critical need for stronger parental guidance, moral upbringing, and robust emotional support systems for young adults.

Call for Parental Involvement

The Commissioner urged parents and guardians to play more active roles in the lives of their children. He emphasized the importance of monitoring their emotional well-being, social circles, and behavioral shifts.

Case Transferred to SCID

The police boss has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a thorough and discreet investigation.
