Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the village head of Ode Oriya Village in Owo Local Council Area of Ondo State, Adeniyi Adelana. The 60-year-old traditional ruler was taken from his residence around 8:30 pm on Saturday by about six armed men.
Attack Details
According to sources, the fully armed gunmen shot the wife of the village head before whisking her husband away into the forest. The wife is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, as confirmed by the state police public relations officer, Abayomi Jimoh.
Police Response
Police operatives were swiftly mobilized to the scene, with tactical teams deployed to comb the forest and other parts of the adjoining community to rescue the victim. The Ondo State Police Command, under Commissioner of Police CP Felix Ohagwu, has launched a coordinated rescue operation.
A comprehensive search-and-rescue operation was immediately activated, with security operatives searching nearby forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes to track the kidnappers and secure the victim's safe release.
The Commissioner of Police has directed all tactical units, intelligence assets, and operational teams to intensify efforts toward the swift rescue of the victim and the apprehension of those responsible.
