Plateau United forward Gafar Oriyomi Saka has emerged as one of the standout performers in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, scoring eight goals across all competitions and helping his team secure a respectable mid-table finish.
Impressive Season for Plateau United
The 23-year-old attacker, born on 1 June 2003, played a crucial role under coach Gbenga Ogunbote as Plateau United finished 10th in the league standings, comfortably avoiding the relegation battle that affected several clubs.
Saka's contributions in the final third proved vital, with his eight-goal tally including strikes against El-Kanemi Warriors, Bendel Insurance, and Abia Warriors in the league, as well as a goal against Ahudiame in the FA Cup.
Versatility and Tactical Flexibility
Although naturally a central striker, Saka demonstrated his adaptability by operating effectively from the left flank when required, providing Plateau United with tactical flexibility. His performances reflected growing maturity and adaptability.
The former Morak FC youth player, who began his football journey in Warri, Delta State, has earned recognition for blending physicality with pace and technical quality. He is comfortable playing with his back to goal, possesses the ability to hold up possession, bring teammates into attacking moves, and create space through intelligent movement.
Key Attributes and Contributions
Beyond goals, Saka's pressing, link-up play, and ability to occupy defenders enabled Plateau United to build attacks more effectively and maintain pressure in advanced areas. Known for his powerful running, strong frame, and clinical finishing, he frequently troubled defenders in one-on-one situations while also proving effective as a target man capable of converting opportunities inside the penalty area.
Saka remains among the promising attacking talents in the domestic game. His performances this season not only underlined his importance to Plateau United but also suggested a player continuing to evolve and refine his craft. With eight goals and valuable top-flight experience gained under Ogunbote's tutelage, the Plateau United forward will hope to build on his momentum in the seasons ahead as he seeks to establish himself among the NPFL's leading attackers.
