Chisom Godswill Anyim, the 25-year-old son of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has formally entered the race for the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He aims to represent Ivo Constituency in Ivo Local Government Area under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Formal Declaration and Motivation
The young aspirant announced his candidacy to journalists shortly after purchasing the APC expression of interest and nomination forms. Chisom stated that his decision to venture into politics is driven by a genuine desire to serve rather than a quest for power. He emphasized his commitment to youth empowerment, grassroots development, and improved security in the constituency.
Consensus Candidate and Youth Inspiration
It is noteworthy that APC stakeholders in Ivo Local Government Area had earlier adopted him as the consensus candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. Chisom attributed his political ambition to the leadership style of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, noting that the administration has created an enabling environment for youths to actively participate in governance. According to him, the governor has fostered a system where young people feel heard and empowered, which inspired him to step forward as a candidate and serve as a beacon of hope for the people of Ivo.
Chisom assured constituents that he would build on the achievements of past leaders while introducing initiatives to further enhance development and improve living standards in the area. “I am going there to continue the great works of our leaders and also inspire the youths. My intention is to serve and not to obtain power,” he said.
Call to Youth and Security Plans
The APC aspirant called on young people across Ebonyi State to discard the notion that they are too young to assume leadership positions, stressing that age should not be a barrier to meaningful contribution in governance. He expressed concern that many youths underestimate their capacity to lead, urging them to take decisive steps toward shaping their future.
“Never in history has anyone been too young to lead. I am here to serve my people, to give them the life they deserve, ensure their safety, and create opportunities for their growth,” he added. He also highlighted plans to improve security so that residents of Ivo can live without fear, noting that his administration, if elected, would prioritize safety and economic opportunities. His vision includes creating platforms for youths to develop their skills and expand their opportunities beyond Ebonyi State to other parts of the country.
