Ekiti Polls: A Referendum for Tinubu's Re-election in 2026
Ekiti Polls: Referendum for Tinubu's Re-election

The Progressives Governors Forum has declared that the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election holds national significance, serving as a precursor to President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2026. The governors made this assertion yesterday in Ado-Ekiti during the official flag-off of Governor Biodun Oyebanji's re-election campaign.

Governors Unite for Oyebanji

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking on behalf of the forum, emphasized that a vote for Oyebanji is equivalent to a vote for Tinubu. He urged the people of Ekiti to rally behind the incumbent governor to demonstrate support for the President's continued leadership.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who chairs the campaign council, echoed these sentiments, noting that the election extends beyond Ekiti's borders. He stressed that it carries national implications as it precedes the presidential election, making it a key indicator of the political landscape.

APC National Chairman Declares Victory

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, confidently declared that Oyebanji has already won the election. He asserted that no other candidate can defeat the APC's candidate, highlighting the party's strong position in the state.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose made a notable appearance, clarifying that his presence was not for the party but for the Ekiti agenda. He stated that after Oyebanji's tenure, he would resume his role as an opposition figure.

Former Governor Kayode Fayemi offered a word of caution, urging party members not to become complacent. He encouraged them to actively canvass for votes, reminding everyone that the race is not over until the final result is announced.

Concerns Over Vandalism

Meanwhile, the BTO Renewed Hope Team, an umbrella body of pro-Tinubu groups supporting Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has raised alarm over the destruction of campaign billboards erected in honor of President Tinubu in Ondo State. The group accused suspected state agents of orchestrating the vandalism in an attempt to stifle the minister's rising political profile.

In a statement, the group described the act as premeditated and undemocratic, noting that the billboards carried no anti-party or divisive messaging. Instead, they were expressions of loyalty to Tinubu and support for his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The BTO Renewed Hope Team called on President Tinubu, state governors, and the APC National Chairman to launch an immediate investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. They also appealed to the party leadership to address growing internal rancor before it threatens APC's cohesion and electoral fortunes.
