The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) has described the formal commencement of the tenure of Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu, as a significant step toward strengthening ties between both nations.
Official Presentation of Letters of Commission
Dr. Ily Maisanda, Chairman of CANUK, made this known in a statement reacting to the ambassador's presentation of his Letters of Commission to His Majesty King Charles III at St James’s Palace on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. This event marked Ambassador Dalhatu’s official resumption as Nigeria’s full diplomatic representative in the United Kingdom.
Key Areas of Cooperation
Dr. Maisanda explained that the new High Commissioner’s tenure would solidify relations in several critical areas, including diplomacy, trade, education, investment, culture, and diaspora engagement. He expressed excitement over the appointment, describing Ambassador Dalhatu as a highly experienced and dedicated government representative who will advance bilateral trade between the two countries.
“We, hereby, congratulate His Excellency Ambassador Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu on the formal commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom,” Maisanda said.
Community Support and Collaboration
The CANUK chairman extended the association’s hand of friendship to the High Commission, pledging support for the welfare of the Nigerian community in the UK and the promotion of stronger people-to-people engagements. He noted that Nigerians in the UK are particularly delighted to once again have such a dedicated representative working on their behalf to advance bilateral relations.
“As the umbrella body for Nigerian community organisations across the UK, CANUK looks forward to close collaboration with the High Commissioner and the Nigeria High Commission to support the welfare of our community and promote stronger people-to-people bonds between both nations,” Maisanda added.
The association’s statement underscores the optimism surrounding Ambassador Dalhatu’s tenure and the potential for enhanced cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in the years ahead.
